I don't know what I'd do without Club 36! It really gives me the break I need to be able to keep him at home a little longer.

The Alzheimer Society of Calgary is pleased to host a one day workshop – The Dementia DOME (Dementia Opportunities Mindfulness Education). This is a hands-on workshop for trying practical strategies to improve and support the experience of caregiving.

This workshop provides a dynamic, interactive opportunity to learn with the goal of empowering you to care for a person with dementia. It's focused on creating a strong understanding of the dementia continuum, providing skills and strategies for interacting and communicating with a person with dementia, and understanding the resources available to help you. The workshop will deepen your knowledge and skills, enabling you to continue to have a meaningful relationship with the person living with dementia.

Topics Include:

  • Brain tour
  • What to say and how to say it
  • Practical approaches to being present
  • Building resiliency for the caregiver
  • Next steps: community resources, continuing care, and homecare

The session will be facilitated by:

Loralee Fox is a Master’s prepared Registered Nurse with a specialty focus on care of older adults. She has received certification from the Canadian Nursing Association in the area of Gerontology and is a Certified PAC Trainer for Teepa Snow.
