Real Talk – Breaking the Silence

A safe space to talk about hard things.

Caring for someone with dementia can be overwhelming. Feelings of frustration, exhaustion and stress are normal and sometimes, in our most difficult moments, we don't show up the way we wish we did. In times of stress and community crisis, it’s common for abuse to rise up. You're not alone in this, and if you have ever felt this way, this conversation is for you.

Join Sagesse, a valued partner of Alzheimer Calgary, for an open, judgment-free session where we explore how to better support people with dementia and caregivers during some of their most difficult moments. We know that all different types of elder abuse can happen in caring relationships, often accompanied by stigma, shame, and isolation. This makes it even harder to reach out for help.

Learning how to talk about abuse isn’t fancy or complicated. We invite you into a conversation to increase understanding and capacity for talking about abuse and supporting people experiencing it.

This session is about creating understanding, not judgment. We'll talk about:

  • Recognizing when stress becomes harm
  • How to have real conversations about difficult experiences
  • Where caregivers and families can find support when they're struggling

Join us in empowering change, reducing those feelings of isolation and bringing people together.
