Description

In this rewarding role, you will guide group discussions, create a warm and welcoming environment, and ensure participants feel supported and connected. With compassion and understanding you will help foster a safe space where caregivers can share their experiences, learn from each other, and access valuable information about dementia and caregiving.

Qualifications

• Some experience with dementia is an asset.
• Willing to commit to the role for one year.
• Empathic, respectful, trustworthy, flexible, and organized.
• Experience in caregiving, dementia care, or related fields is preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead group discussions, manage group dynamics, and work collaboratively with a colleague.
• Compassion, empathy, and patience, as well as a commitment to supporting caregivers in a non-judgmental manner that validates their feelings and experiences.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and create a trusting environment.
• Knowledge and ongoing personal practice of self-care routines.
• Security clearance – must obtain police check with vulnerable sector search prior to beginning role.
• Must provide two references (personal and professional).

Do you have a plan for Thanksgiving Sunday morning? If not, please join us. You’ll be home in time for turkey, we promise. Our signature fundraising event brings over 1,500 people together for an uplifting, high-energy walk and runs from downtown Calgary along the Bow River pathways. There are music and entertainment, food and feel-good activities to nourish the soul. We need about 200 volunteers in all roles to ensure it’s a fun, safe and happy time for everyone.

A few hours per week. Flexible schedule.

If your strengths include attention to detail and being remarkably organized, this might be the position for you. Have computer skills? Even better. Administrative volunteers assist with office support and add necessary horsepower to our operation. Our scheduling is flexible if you have just a few hours a week to spare. Training is provided, and a police record check is required.

(Raiser’s Edge experience is an asset, but that’s just us dreaming.)

Two hours per week or every 2 weeks, with a minimum commitment of 6 months.

Want to work directly with people who have dementia? Build connections with members of our Club 36 program and add enjoyment and fun to your weekday routine. Volunteers assist in hands-on activities and provide added friendship and energy to the Club experience. On-the-job and formal training are provided. Available one day per week for two hours, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Qualifications:

• Age 17+
• Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
• Calm, caring disposition.
• Experience working with people living with dementia is an asset.

A few hours per month, as-needed.

Do you like being out in the community and talking to people? A major part of the demand for our programming comes from community education sessions. We’re travelling to every part of the city and providing learning sessions for people impacted by dementia. This role may include checking in guests as they arrive, helping set up and take down chairs and tables, greeting people, providing help with navigation, or offering refreshments. These learning sessions range from small, intimate groups to large, theatre-style auditorium events.

A few hours, as-needed.

This might be a great fit if you enjoy the buzz and energy at special events. Occasionally, we’re involved in gala-type events, where volunteers assist with silent auctions, registration, and auction payment.

Regardless of how much time you can contribute, every volunteer makes a difference to the people we serve. Opportunities range from smaller time commitments to more substantial ones.
