Self Care
By maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you'll enjoy a better quality of life and you will be able to maximize your strengths and capabilities.
Managing any potential stress is crucial.
While a certain amount of stress is natural and expected, too much stress for anyone, including a person living with dementia, is not helpful. There are many ways to manage your stress in a positive manner, including:
- Minimizing distractions or unwanted noise
- Spending quality time with family and friends
- Listening to your favourite music
- Taking part in a favourite activity
- Going on an outing to your favourite restaurant, store, park, activity centre, etc.
- Taking a walk or spending time outdoors
- Taking part in a new activity that challenges your mind or your body
- Speaking to your family physician
- Joining a support group
- Taking a trip down memory lane by looking at photos or videos that you enjoy
